Notes: In the late 1920s Newsome and fellow artist Kathleen Irene Nixon, whom she met while studying book illustration at the Birmingham School of Art, were commissioned by the Oxford University Press to visit India and produce a series of drawings. While there, the Indian State Railways also commissioned them to design tourism posters, for which Newsome, and her colourful style, is most well-known.
