Description: 18th century oak longcase with mahogany inlay, flat top with concave moulding and raised pediment above, glazed arched door flanked by two turned pillars with wooden capitals, canted recess to the hood door, oak trunk with long flat-topped door on a reduced plinth with attached skirting, unsigned 12" wide painted arched dial with Roman numerals and minute track, subsidiary seconds dial and square date aperture with a silvered date ring to rear, spandrels fully painted with rural scenes, arch painted with a scene entitled "Monmouth Castle", steel hour hand, dial pinned directly to an eight-day weight driven rack striking movement with recoil anchor escapement, striking the hours on a bell (missing), calendar motion wheel present.
