Description : Rare Mettlach glazed nautilus ewer with a figure emerging from the shell and with applied strap work decoration on a shell moulded foot with date code for 1894 H40cm Notes (supplied by the Keramikmuseum): 'The so-called NAUTILUS-Jug has the decoration number 1123, and it belonged to the product range of our factory at Mettlach from 1881, the year of the registration of the design, until the beginning of the 20th century: the jug can be proved in the sales catalogues of 1885 and 1899. Your jug dates back to the year 1894. The sales price at that time has been 20,00 German Marks. 1123 is a relief jug decorated by hand painting, the material is stone ware.'
Damage to one of the cabochons on the handle. Small graze to the blue glaze on the body. Generally very good condition.
