Duggleby Stephenson is an ambitious new auctioneering enterprise designed to create a bright, fresh enterprise for the buying and selling of excellent jewellery, exquisite antiques, contemporary design and fine art. It also provides an outstanding space for the expanding market in smart furniture and unique, individual lots.
The enterprise is a fusion of the David Duggleby business based in Scarborough, which will maintain its coastal salerooms, and Boulton & Cooper Stephensons of Malton and York. The new showroom and auction centre is based at York Auction Centre in Murton near York, the county’s leading multi-auction centre.
“We believe buying and selling at auction should be exciting and invigorating for everyone, a really uplifting vibrant experience where buyers and sellers all go home happy with their day having enjoyed the benefits of the competitive nature of the saleroom.” says auctioneer and fine arts expert William Duggleby, who is keen to change the image of auctions.
“Where our new Saleroom differs from most is in its fresh, purpose-built interior providing everyone with a fantastic viewing area probably more closely associated with a high-end furniture showroom and separate bidding room that offers in-house and online bidders the opportunity to stake their claim to each lot in the most professional way outside of London.
“We’re conscious of the sometimes stuffy image of auctions and we’re keen to encourage younger generations. The market for quality furniture, gold, silver, diamonds and interesting antiques ready to go is proving an increased attraction among younger adults and having an auction room that matches aspirations of buyers and sellers is a huge leap in the right direction. We are looking forward to some sensational items being brought forward and there is no better time than at our first sale at these wonderful new premises that will take place in October.”
