Musgrave & Co LTD. cast iron stable fittings - Musgrave Bros began manufacturing hardware in Belfast...

Musgrave & Co LTD. cast iron stable fittings - Musgrave Bros began manufacturing hardware in Belfast in 1844 and by 1850 they had established themselves as one of the premier iron works in the country. Their patent stoves and stables became a byword for quality across the British Isles and Europe. Between 1890 and 1914 Musgrave opened showrooms in the most prominent countries of the day, and it was during this period that they outfitted stables for Monarchs, members of the aristocracy and wealthy landowners throughout the world. Possibly the most famous example of this is The Royal Mews at Buckingham palace; Musgrave outfitted the stables during a refurbishment and modernisation commissioned by Queen Victoria, where it is still in use to this day. They offered various different styles and 'optional extras,' being more expensive for the more elaborate designs on offer. This set, circa 1900, is comprised of four standings, four mangers, five cast iron name plaques and five galvanised water cups. It is a particularly rare example, having cast iron horse head finials as well as railings depicting stable equipment, dogs and prancing horses. Provenance - This was part of a larger set that was removed from a large estate near Hull at the end of the 20th century Measurements - total height of tall uprights 251cm, total height of smaller uprights 175cm, bay depth 281cm (MAX)
