We’re now inviting entries for our upcoming Modern Living & Design Auction, a carefully curated sale celebrating the enduring style, craftsmanship and innovation of design from the mid-20th century to today. Taking place on Friday 26 September, this specialist event showcases the elegance, originality and practical beauty of modern interiors – and there’s still time to include your own items.

If your home features clean lines, iconic silhouettes, or bold, sculptural furniture that balances form and function, this is your chance to sell to a market of design-conscious buyers who know and appreciate what quality looks like.

Timeless Design, Ready to Impress

At the heart of this sale is design that lasts, furniture, lighting and decorative pieces that marry craftsmanship with concept. Already consigned is a handsome mid-20th century extending dining table by Andrew Milne for Heals, with beautifully sculpted pedestal supports and a refined oval form. It’s the kind of piece equally suited to a stylish boardroom or a period-modern home.

Similarly functional and elegant is the Ercol Windsor dining suite, made in solid elm with rounded edges and classic spindle-back chairs. Mid-century Ercol continues to hold value thanks to its unmistakable light tone, quality of build and everyday usability.

Design Icons and Statement Pieces

Modern interiors often sing with sculptural accent pieces and this sale doesn’t disappoint. We’re pleased to feature a pair of 1960s Danish safari chairs attributed to Kaare Klint, combining an ash frame with canvas sling seats and leather strap arms. They’re a clever fusion of comfort and simplicity, emblematic of Scandinavian modernism.

From the same design lineage, a Lucian Ercolani ‘Giraffe’ bookcase for Ercol brings function and beauty to open-plan spaces. With slender beech supports and an integrated storage cupboard, it’s both room divider and feature furniture.

A little more playful, but no less collectable, is Giancarlo Piretti’s 1984 ‘Dilemma’ coat rack and ladder, a clever piece of postmodern design from Italy, joined by a set of six Castelli stacking chairs, also by Piretti. With moulded plywood seats and lightweight aluminium frames, they offer smart, stackable solutions for contemporary workspaces or studios.

And from the United States, the ever-popular 'Hang It All' wall-mounted coat rack by Charles and Ray Eames (for Vitra) brings a pop of mid-century charm, featuring lacquered wooden ball hooks in a rainbow of colours – one of the most recognisable design objects of the 20th century.

Comfort, Craft and the Bedroom Reimagined

Modern design isn’t just for the public-facing rooms. We’re also including statement bedroom pieces like the Bonaparte Emperor bed by And So To Bed – a grand, Victorian-inspired design with modern comfort, paired with a Vispring Kingsbridge mattress. This balance of heritage styling and plush upholstery offers the best of both eras.

Equally impressive, especially for executive interiors, is a mid-century teak desk set by Dyrlund, the renowned Danish manufacturer known for its handcrafted office furniture. The desk’s floating drawer unit and classic leather writing pad signal both authority and aesthetic integrity, ideal for serious collectors or professionals with an eye for design history.
