Exterminate the Reserve Price: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Sale Results

Some auctions are about furniture. Some are about fine art. And then there are the ones where a full-scale driveable Dalek sells alongside a first edition Ian Fleming and a signed Empire Strikes Back poster covered in the signatures of the people who actually made the film. Our Sci-Fi and Fantasy Sale was very much the latter and it was exciting.

From vintage toys and cult literature to original artwork and full-size replicas, this is a specialist auction that celebrates imagination, nostalgia and the kind of collector passion that turns a childhood obsession into a very serious investment. The results speak for themselves. Read on to find out what sold and what it achieved.

Exterminate the Reserve Price
Doctor Who delivered two of the most visually spectacular lots in the sale. A full-scale sit-in driveable replica Dalek, self-powered with wooden and aluminium chassis, voice changer mic and sound system and modelled on the Saucer Commander from the 1966 film Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., sold for £2,200. A full-scale scratch-built replica TARDIS, with functioning lantern and ringing telephone, the telephone door autographed by Sylvester McCoy, Frazer Hines, Wendy Padbury, Janet Fielding and Carol Ann Ford, sold for £1,100. Two pieces that would make any living room considerably more interesting. These lots were also featured in: The Yorkshire Post, The Scarborough News and The Northern Echo. 

To The Batcave
A T.N Nomura Batman battery operated robot, in 1966, this cost around $3-5, in todays money that's around £40, last week, it sold for £2,100. One of the most coveted tin toy robots of the postwar era, in its original box and in the condition collectors dream about. 

Assembled and Ready
A Sideshow Collectibles limited edition Hulk vs Spiderman Diorama, boxed, sold for £340. A McFarlane Toys Matrix Series One fight scene figure together with an ArtFX Matrix Reloaded 1:6 scale pre-painted vinyl figure sold for £130. Six Neca Aliens figures, including Dallas Compression Suit, 40th Anniversary Lambert and Space Marine Drake, all boxed or carded, sold for £150.

From the Collection of Arthur C. Clarke's Brother
Three works from a remarkable private provenance offered a glimpse into a world of science fiction at its most visionary. David A. Hardy's oil on board Andromeda, signed and dated 1968, sold for £340. A photographic print of Chris Foss's cover art for the 1990s reissue of Arthur C. Clarke's novel The Sentinel sold for £170. Hardy's further oil on board Moons of Saturn sold for £320. All three came directly from the private collection of Arthur C. Clarke's brother, giving them a provenance that no amount of money can manufacture.

A Galaxy of Results
Star Wars collectors were well served throughout the sale. A pair of Gentle Giant limited edition Mos Eisley Cantina bookends, numbered 1244 of 3500, sold for £130. Twenty-three Star Wars Black Series Red Wave action figures, all boxed, sold for £130. A collection of loose 1970s and 80s Kenner Star Wars figures and collectables including a Boba Fett keyring and Return of the Jedi pencil sharpener sold for £150. Thirty further Star Wars figures spanning Solo, The Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi, all carded, sold for £150.

Precious Things from Middle Earth and Beyond
This section brings together some of the sale's most varied and talked-about lots. An Eaglemoss Lord of the Rings Chess Collection, comprising a board, ninety-seven boxed chess pieces and corresponding magazines, sold for £130. A United Cutlery limited edition Lord of the Rings Gauntlet of Sauron, with glass dome and box, sold for £500. An Ian Fleming Moonraker first edition state B, with the shoot spelling correction on page 10 and in its original orange and yellow flame dust jacket, sold for £1,400. And an autographed 1980s Star Wars Empire Strikes Back movie poster, with signatures including Peter Mayhew, Dave Prowse, Kenny Baker, Jeremy Bulloch and Warwick Davis among others, obtained at the Dave Prowse Promotions Multicon Event in Blackpool in 1998, sold for £650.
