Another busy week of auctions brings together jewellery, furniture, art, decorative objects and affordable antiques, with plenty to discover across five separate catalogues. We have picked out a handful of standout lots from each sale, giving a flavour of what is on offer before bidding comes to a close.

Jewellery

The week begins with a strong selection of fine jewellery, where diamonds, opals and classic precious metal designs sit alongside a much broader catalogue.

One of the most eye-catching pieces is Lot 8014, a platinum black opal and diamond ring centred by an oval cabochon opal of approximately 8.45 carats. The openwork surround is milgrain set with forty-eight round brilliant cut diamonds, with tapered baguette cut diamond shoulders completing the design. It is estimated at £4,000 to £6,000. For something more understated, Lot 8026 is an 18ct white gold diamond line bracelet set with seventy-six round brilliant cut diamonds, with a total diamond weight of approximately 2.30 carats. It carries an estimate of £2,500 to £3,000.

A neat pair of 18ct gold baguette cut diamond earrings, Lot 8004, offers a more compact take on geometric diamond jewellery. Channel set with baguette cut diamonds totalling 1.16 carats, the pair is estimated at £300 to £500.

Furniture & Rugs

The Furniture & Rugs catalogue mixes practical interior pieces with characterful furniture, including a few designs that are difficult to ignore. A Timothy Oulton for Halo two seater Chesterfield settee, Lot 7001, brings classic club style into the sale. Upholstered in tan leather with a buttoned back, rolled arms and loose seat cushions, it is estimated at £500 to £800.

A more restrained interior piece comes with Lot 7003, an OKA glazed dark oak bookcase cabinet. Astragal style glazed doors open to adjustable shelving, while the lower section provides further enclosed storage. Estimated at £400 to £600, it has the scale and versatility to work in a living room, study or dining space. Then there is Lot 7069, a Victorian painted pine ottoman later decorated as a giant copy of Fifty Shades of Grey. The hinged cover opens to reveal storage, while the silver geometric detail and grey painted finish turn a traditional piece into something far more playful. It is estimated at £100 to £200.

Affordable Art

Affordable Art offers its usual mix of landscapes, prints, works on paper and more individual subjects, with these three giving just a glimpse of the range.

Louis Rollet’s Sprawling Blossom Tree, Lot 6570, is a signed watercolour dated 1938, capturing the loose form and colour of a tree in bloom. It is estimated at £200 to £300. A more graphic composition appears in John Nash RA’s Window Plants, Lot 6543, a coloured lithograph dated 1945 and titled on the artist’s label verso. Estimated at £150 to £250, it brings together domestic subject matter and the strong design sensibility associated with Nash’s printmaking.

Railway interest comes through Thomas Edward North’s Steam Train Leaving the Station, Lot 6552, a signed gouache estimated at £100 to £200. With its movement, smoke and sense of departure, it offers a very different mood from the quieter works elsewhere in the selection.

Antiques & Decorative Objects

The Antique & Decorative Objects sale is especially varied this week, moving from studio pottery and Moorcroft to larger collections of traditional ceramics.

Lot 6057 is a Moorcroft Swaledale Sheep pattern tall vase, designed by Phillip Gibson. Standing 36cm high and offered boxed, the baluster form is decorated with one of Moorcroft’s more recognisable countryside inspired designs. It is estimated at £200 to £400. Collectors of Royal Doulton may be drawn to Lot 6067, an extensive collection of more than sixty Bunnykins figures, together with a group of boxes. Estimated at £150 to £250, it offers breadth as much as individual appeal.

A more studio-led piece appears with Lot 6000, a Clive Bowen slipware jug decorated in shades of yellow with a loop handle. At 30cm high, it has the strong form and expressive surface associated with Bowen’s pottery and carries an estimate of £100 to £200.

Affordable Antiques: Collectors, Pictures & Jewellery

The Affordable Antiques catalogue brings together jewellery, glass, silver, collectables and decorative pieces, making it one of the most eclectic sales of the week. A Victorian silver hinged bangle, Lot 9019, is decorated with applied green and rose gold foliate detail and a bead border. Made by T.W. in Birmingham in 1893, it is estimated at £70 to £100.

For colour, Lot 9054 offers a collection of French blue and pink bubble glass from La Verrerie de Biot. Estimated at £50 to £100, the group has plenty of decorative appeal as a collection rather than a single statement object. Finally, Lot 9097 is a mixed group of powder compacts, including a Birks engraved sterling silver example, a purple enamel octagonal compact painted with the head of a terrier, two faux butterfly wing examples and two further compacts. The collection is estimated at £50 to £80.
