What is a probate valuation?
‘Probate’ is the legal process of dealing with someone’s assets after they die, usually carried out by the executors of their will. A probate valuation gives an accurate valuation of the assets of the deceased, including property, vehicles, and belongings. Executors will sometimes know the approximate value of the deceased’s items; however, they are often unaware of specific items of value. This can lead to either an under- or an over-estimate of the estate’s true value: an underestimate can mean the incorrect amount of Inheritance Tax is paid, in which case penalties can be applied on top of the extra tax, and an overestimate can result in too much tax being paid. HMRC are much more likely to accept a valuation that has been provided by a professional, and with our probate valuations starting from just £99 + VAT, there’s no reason not to get one!
