Description: A Gustav Becker (German) late 19th century single weight driven Vienna regulator in a mahogany and ebonised case with a carved decorative pediment and finials, full length arched door and glazed side panels, with a white two piece 7.5” enamel dial, Roman numerals, minute track and subsidiary seconds dial, with pierced steel Viennese hands, dial inscribed “W.T. Braham, Stretford Road", full length pendulum with a wooden rod and brass bob, with beat plate, brass cased weight, pulley and key.
William T. Braham was a watchmaker and Jeweller working from 392 Stretford Road, Manchester c1870. As well as being a jeweller he was a keen follower of Spiritualism and manufactured and sold several spiritual communication devices from his premises in Manchester.
Spiritualism , the belief of communication with the dead, was a highly popular belief and practised widely for a period in late Victorian and early Edwardian England and America.
