All lots can be viewed in our state-of-the-art Salerooms on the Wednesday and Thursday before a sale, and on the morning of the auction. Specific viewing times can be found on our Upcoming Auctions page.
Alternatively, illustrated online catalogues for all our auctions can be viewed on our website.
Printed catalogues are available free from The Saleroom.
How to Bid In person
To bid in person for the first time at an auction, you can register at reception, leaving your name, address and contact details, and you will be given a bidding number. To bid in future sales, simply give your name at reception and we will issue you with a new bidding number.
If you are unable to attend the sale, you can leave a commission bid – this is where the auctioneer will bid on your behalf, up to a maximum amount specified by yourself. Duggleby Stephenson will attempt to purchase the lot for you at the lowest possible price, subject to sellers’ reserves, other commission bids and bidders in the room.
For instance, if you leave a commission bid of £200 on a lot, and the last bid in the room is £120, then you would win the lot for £130. We also offer the option of a ‘plus one bid’, whereby you give the auctioneer permission to go one bid higher in order to secure the lot for you.
Commission bids can be left in person during auction viewing, over the telephone, or on our website: simply find the lot you want to bid on and click the ‘place a bid’ button. You will then receive an email confirmation of your bid.
We offer telephone bidding on lots with an estimate of over £200; we will contact you during the sale, approximately five minutes before your lot is due to be sold, and you will be able to bid as if you were in the room. All telephone bids must be arranged before 9:30am on the day of sale.
Live bidding via the-saleroom.com
Live bidding is available for all our auctions. Simply click the ‘Bid Live’ button on the auction page, and you will be taken to the-saleroom.com, where you can view a live video feed of the sale, and bid live on all lots. Please note that lots bought through live bidding will incur an additional charge of 5% (plus VAT) on the hammer price, which we collect and pass on to the bidding platform.
We accept payment via cash, debit card, BACS transfer, or cheque. Lots can be paid for and collected immediately after the fall of the hammer; we ask that all lots are collected by the Friday following a sale. Storage charges may apply to lots collected after this deadline.
We offer a comprehensive packing, postage and delivery service, both nationally and internationally: details can be found here.
