Buying

Viewing:

Online – all lots receive full studio photography, and can be viewed online via our Upcoming Auctions page. All of our auctions are also hosted on the-saleroom.com.

In person – viewing for all auctions is at our York Auction Centre, two days prior to the sale. Specific times can be found on our Upcoming Auctions page. Complimentary printed catalogues are available for all sales.

Bidding:

In person – register at reception when you arrive to receive a paddle number which you can use to bid in the room.

Commission bids – if you are unable to attend the sale, you can leave commission bids; this is where you give the auctioneer permission to bid on your behalf up to a specified amount. These can be left by filling in a form at the Salerooms, via our website, or over the telephone.

Online – we offer our own online bidding platform, DS Live, which allows you to bid as if you were in the room, from the comfort of your own home. Simply make an account before the sale, and click the 'DS Live' button on the sale in which you want to bid. You will be able to see and hear the auctioneer in real time, and can bid by pressing the 'Bid Now' button when your desired lot arises.
Alternatively, you can bid live on any of our sales via the-saleroom.com. Please note, bids through DS Live are subject to a surcharge of 2% plus VAT, and bids through the-saleroom.com are subject to a surcharge of 5% plus VAT.

Telephone bids – for higher value lots, we offer a telephone bidding service. Due to a limited number of phone lines available on the sale day, this service is only offered for lots with an estimate of over £200. Call our office at least an hour prior to the sale, and we will be happy to book you a telephone line. We ask that all telephone bidders leave a 'cover bid', in the unlikely circumstance that we are unable to contact you on the sale day.

Successful bids are subject to a buyer’s premium of 22% plus VAT on the hammer price.

Payment:

We accept payment by: cash, debit card, BACS transfer, and cheque. Please note we are unable to accept credit cards.

All successful bidders will receive an invoice with an online payment link via email. We ask that all lots are paid for within 5 working days of the sale, otherwise further charges may apply.

Collection:

Smaller items can be collected from our York Auction Centre during the sale; items of furniture can only be collected once the sale has ended. All lots can then be collected Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm.

We offer a comprehensive postage, packing and delivery service. Your email invoice will also contain a personalised delivery quote (UK Mainland only). Please contact our office directly for an international shipping quote.

All lots must be collected or have delivery arranged within 5 working days of the sale.
