William Anderson of St Andrews – 8-day mahogany drumhead longcase clock c1840, break arch hood surmounted with scroll shaped pediment and a brass ball and eagle finial, wooden dial surround with canted reeded corners and recessed panels, trunk with recessed reeded pilasters to the corners, inlaid with yew and satinwood inlay, shoulder topped trunk door with inlay to the edge, conforming plinth with an applied decorative skirting, circular 12” painted dial with Roman numerals and minute track, subsidiary date and seconds dials, steel moon hands and brass cast bezel with a convex glass, anchor escapement with a rack striking movement, striking the hours on a bell. With weights, pendulum and key.
William Anderson is recorded as working in South Street, St Andrews (Scotland) 1832-67. Succeeded by his son George 1860-92.
